A super simple guide to help you identify the most appropriate oils for the moment when you are just starting out……

Ok let’s start with Citrus: When we look at how a citrus tree grows, it’s branches are stretching up and out towards the sky which indicates how they might support our mood. Citrus oils uplift, energise and invigorates us. They are excellent for pulling us up out of a slump when we are feeling low. They are also wonderfully supportive for reducing stress levels and anxious feelings. All citrus oils are detoxifying and cleansing by nature for both our internal and external worlds.

Next up is the Tree Oils: We’ve really got three categories of essential oils within the tree category, those that are distilled from the needles/ leaves/ twigs, those that come from the wood of the tree and those that come from resin. Oils that come from the leaves/ needles and resin of a tree are excellent pain support agents. Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Siberian Fir, Cypress, Frankincense and Copaiba are amazing analgesic essential oils. They soothe aching, sore muscles and joints as well as nerve pain and provide excellent localised relief to the area they are applied.

Then we’ve got our Herb Oils: Think oregano, rosemary and thyme. What all of these oils have in common is their very strong cleansing properties for our body during times of illness. If we happen to pick up a bug or some other nastiness, a herb oil will help our body eliminate it as quickly as possible. These oils are also great for cleansing our external world when illness is doing the rounds to prevent cross contamination.

Lastly we’ve got our Flower Oils: When we look at flowers, their petals are soft and velvety giving us a clue as to how they might make our own skin feel. Flowers are excellent for calming skin redness and irritation, for improving skin quality, texture and for smoothing out imperfections. They all happen to be powerhouses for supporting and nourishing the female reproductive system as well which is reflected in the very design of a flower.

So there you have it. Of course there is SO much more each category has to offer and this is a simplistic overview but it’s a great starting point and will help you on your way.
