What is oil cleansing??
Well it's where you clean your face with oil instead of soap and water!
No you don't turn into an oil slick I promise. Quite the opposite, it gives you wonderfully balanced and moisturised skin that just looks happier and healthier.
The thing about traditional soaps and cleansers is that they tend to strip away our natural oils and break down our lipid barrier which leaves us with skin that is desperately trying to produce more oil to reestablish that barrier!
Soap and cleansers often have a harsh pH level as well that is either too acidic or alkaline which can affect the natural pH level of your skin leaving it either dry and cracked like the salt flats of Utah or with an oil slick like that of the Exxon Valdez.
Using an oil to clean your skin is incredibly gentle, nourishing and restorative. There is an oil for every skin type as well.
To balance skin try : sunflower, olive, avocado or sweet almond oil.
For sensitive skin try : apricot kernal, jojoba or sweet almond.
For oily or acne prone skin try : grapeseed, jojoba or extra virgin coconut oil.
For dry skin try : macadamia, avocado or sweet almond.
For me it's extra virgin coconut oil.
Simply take a dessert spoon of your chosen oil which might be coconut oil (not FCO), sesame oil, avocado or jojoba and massage it into dry skin thoroughly in circular motions.
Try adding a drop of Melaleuca, Lavender or Geranium to your chosen oil to give either an extra little antibacterial boost, reduce some redness that might be present or for an extra moisture charge. Below is an awesome reference chart for you to identify which essential oils might be great matches for achieving your best skin.
Once you've given it a really good rub, take a wet and hot face cloth and lay it over your face allowing the steam to soak the oil into your skin before rubbing off the oil with it.
That's all there is to it guys!
I'd recommend only oil cleansing once a day, for me it's night time because I love the ritual of it.....makes me feel like a goddess. In the mornings I use doTerra's Verage Facial System because it's the beez kneez and all plant based.
You know I love to hear from you so drop me a line x
